The Dexter ring bit is widely used in racing and is useful for strong horses. The Dexter bit ring is also useful for safely leading a lively horse while saddled. The bit is a jointed mouthpiece that produces a nutcracker effect, but it has limited action as it is fixed to the ring at three points. The half spoon bottom on the cheek of the Dexter ring bit helps with better turning and prevents the bit from being pulled through the horse's mouth.
